2002 Caymus Special Select Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1.5 LTR 1.5 liter
Of the two Cabernet Sauvignon wines made at Caymus winery, Special Selection has always been considered a slightly more complex wine that historically has proven to be more age worthy. There’s truth to this belief - in retrospective tastings the Special Selection has outlived its sibling, the “Napa Valley” Cabernet Sauvignon. As a rule, the Special has had higher tannin content, and although the tannins are fine-grained and soft even in youth, they continue to provide grip and texture over the years.
ROBERT PARKER REVIEW: A fabulous effort, the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection boasts an inky/purple color to the rim as well as a gloriously exuberant bouquet of creme de cassis, graphite, vanilla, and charcoal. Dense and full-bodied, with fabulous purity, sweet tannin, decent acidity, and perfect equilibrium, this is a great Napa Cabernet Sauvignon to drink now and over the next 15+ years.
