2009 Yalumba The Scribbler Cabernet Sauvignon-Shiraz Barossa Valley South Australia 750ml

Quick Overview

A deep crimson red, The Scribbler 2009 shows excellent concentration and lift on the nose, with redcurrant fruits, spices and licorice complementing fresh floral aromatics of herbs and mints. This is a densely weighted wine with blackcurrant fruit and dark berries. The Shiraz is again nicely layered within a tightly integrated and beautifully structured Cabernet Sauvignon palate. Perfect to drink now, but will certainly cellar well over the next five to 10 years.

2009 Yalumba The Scribbler Cabernet Sauvignon-Shiraz Barossa Valley South Australia 750ml

Yalumba was founded in 1849 by Samuel Smith, British migrant and English brewer, who had brought his family to Angaston seeking a new life. After purchasing a 30-acre parcel of land just beyond the southern-eastern boundary of Angaston, Smith and his son began planting the first vines by moonlight. Samuel named his patch "Yalumba" – aboriginal for "all the land around".

Five generations and 160 years later Yalumba, Australia's oldest family owned winery, has grown in size and stature, embodying all that has made the Australian wine success story the envy of winemakers the world over.

JAMES HALLIDAY RATING: 94

JAMES HALLIDAY REVIEW: Light, bright red-purple; a 61/39% blend from the Barossa (which includes both Barossa Valley and Eden Valley) with vibrant redcurrant, cherry and plum fruit and a nice touch of oak. The moderate alcohol plays a major role in making this wine as fresh and drinkable as it is.
