ROBERT PARKER RATING: 90
ROBERT PARKER REVIEW: At the Napa Valley tasting, Beringer's 1986 Cabernet Sauvignon Chabot Vineyard seemed over the hill, as if it had been poorly stored. A bottle from my cellar was another animal altogether. My tasting notes on that latter bottle reveal a wine with a dark ruby/purple color with amber at the edge, an expressive, chocolatey, smoky, licorice, sweet blackcurrant-scented nose, powerfully concentrated, thick, chewy, earthy flavors, and moderate tannin. This full-bodied, muscular, rich wine is just beginning to reach full maturity.
WINE SPECTATOR RATING: 92
WINE SPECTATOR REVIEW: About all you could hope for from a wine this age. The aroma is fresh and youthful, with floral lavender, currant, mineral and anise notes. On the palate the flavors are intense, focused and balanced, and this ends with a complex aftertaste. The best of three bottles.
This wine has a dark ruby/purple color. On the nose intense chocolaty, smoky, and sweet blackcurrant. On the palate the wine is focused, thick, chewy, earthy flavors, and moderate tannins that lead to a brilliant finish.
