ROBERT PARKER REVIEW: The 1994 Valsotillo Reserva (made from 100% Tinta del Pais that spent 24 months in oak) is powerful, evolved, and intoxicating in terms of its brash display of blackberry liqueur intermixed with licorice, mineral, and floral scents. This opaque purple-colored, full-bodied wine is brawny, expansive, rich, and brilliantly well-balanced.
WINE SPECTATOR REVIEW: This impressive red combines ripe fruit and luscious texture in a marriage of regional flavors and international-style structure. Polished and velvety on the palate, with expressive flavors of plum, coffee, licorice and herb.
100% Tempranillo. The weather during the harvest was wet and rainy winter, not too cold. A stormy weather at the begining of the summer, but very dry the rest of it. Good weather during Harvest, which started the 29th of September. Grapes picked by hand. Vines situated in South-facing slopes. The soil is made up of sand, limestone and clay. All are low bush vines.
Alcoholic and Malolactic fermentation controlled in stainlees steel vats.
