ROBERT PARKER REVIEW: 90-92 pts! Proprietor Nils Venge produces Zinfandel with unbridled power and richness. Some critics suggest it is over the top, but I suspect they would have said the same thing about the 1947 Cheval Blanc or 1947 Petrus if they had tasted those wines at a young age. That being said, readers looking for wimpish, subtle, innocuous wines (this is usually referred to as elegance) are advised to keep their distance. A monster Zinfandel, it boasts an opaque dark ruby/purple color, a huge, toasty, oaky, smoky, jammy, black-raspberry-scented nose, and unctuously thick, fat flavors that taste more like Zin gravy than wine. This thick, brawny, massive Zinfandel works in spite of its weight and intensity because everything is in proportion.

The grapes for this wine are sourced from St. Helena and, as a special treat in this (our third) vintage, a small lot from Louis Martini's Monte Rosso Vineyard in Sonoma has been added.
