1997 Melka Metisse Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
SKU #500556
Elegant, clean, focused, minty, soy, leather and ripe berries are the most accurate descriptors for the nose. The mouthfeel is concentrated with big and powerful tannins. The wine starts with spice and chocolate followed by a greatly textured mid-palate and finishing with firm tannins.

ROBERT PARKER REVIEW: Metisse is the name of the limited production wine made by the talented young French winemaking consultant, Philippe Melka (also the winemaker for Seavey and J. Lail Vineyards). The 1997 Proprietary Red (450 cases made from 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Franc) is a blend that is similar to that of the famed Chateau Haut-Brion, but the wine tastes more like a Pomerol. Deep ruby/purple, with an exuberant, exotic nose of espresso beans lathered in melted chocolate, and jammy cherry/cassis. Full-bodied and velvety-textured, this opulent, hedonistic, gorgeously textured wine is already thrilling to drink. Anticipated maturity: now-2016.
53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. Métisse is a French word meaning "a blend of cultures". The name was chosen because it embodies both the spirit of our original concept (a blend of Bordeaux varietals - cabernet sauvignon, merlot and petit verdot) and our spirit as the winemakers (a blend of French and American).
