WINE SPECTATOR REVIEW: A solid red, chewy and dense, with plum, currant and lots of peppery spice overtones. Finishes with fine-grained tannins and a relatively soft texture, which lets the flavors soar.
The 1998 Mountain Blue shows a rich, deep plum colour and exhibits the outstanding quality that we regard as latent to the Mudgee wine region and our vineyards there. The attractive blackcurrant aroma of Cabernet Sauvignon complements the complex, mint and spice characters of Shiraz. On the palate, the intense fruit and firm tannin structure reaffirms the wine’s excellent depth and sustained richness, reflecting the dry vintage conditions. Blackberry and spicy plum flavours dominate the palate, with the dry tannins following through to fabulous depth on the finish. The wine’s full bodied richness make it the ideal match for game and red meat dishes.
