2000 Cockburn's Vintage Port

SKU #500627
Made only in years which have been blessed by optimum growing conditions Cockburn's Vintage Port is made from grapes of a single harvest from vineyards whose crops show exceptional quality. Aged just two years in cask the wine is bottled unfiltered, therefore absolutely nothing is taken out. Vintage Ports are made in very small quantities and benefit from 15-50+ years of bottle ageing; because they are unfiltered they will, during that time, throw a thick sediment and require careful decanting and are best served on the day they are opened.

ROBERT PARKER REVIEW: Potentially one of the most compelling wines of the vintage, this inky black/purple-colored 2000 exhibits notes of scorched earth, melted asphalt, blackberry liqueur, and a pungent, penetrating intensity that reverberates in the mouth as well as the head. Full-bodied, massive, and concentrated, with a 45-second finish, this thrilling effort should drink well between 2010-2035.
The 2000 winter was mild and dry. Spring rain at flowering caused some reduction in overall crop size. Summer was hot and dry, giving a regular and uniform grape maturation until mid-August, when light rains brought welcome refreshment to the vines. The vintage began in the Upper Douro in the second week of September. The weather cooperated fully, providing warm and dry conditions during the day and cool night time temperatures. A suitably momentous wine from millennium year.
