ROBERT PARKER REVIEW: The 2001 Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda is stunning. It opens with gorgeous aromas of rose petals and sweet ripe cherries that meld seamlessly onto a palate of dark raspberries, cocoa and licorice. It offers super length and elegant tannins in a style that is incredibly delicate and surprisingly approachable today. A recent tasting at the estate of Vigna Riondas going back to 1982 was illuminating. The wines had all aged beautifully. While the classic vintages such as 1982, 1985, 1989 and 1990 were all outstanding, one of the highlights was unquestionably the 1986, from a long forgotten, insiders’ vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2026.
WINE SPECTATOR REVIEW: Offers aromas of blackberry and plum, with hints of spices and toasty oak. Full-bodied, with big, velvety tannins and a long finish. This is big, juicy and tannic.
The color is bright garnet red. The aromas are from very intensely floral through a multitude of scents which are always particularly seductive. Flavors are potent of all our products, it perfectly summarizes the essential characteristics of Borolo wine, such as grand structure, excellent alcohol concentration and tannins capable of guaranteeing very long ageing. It opens up gradually and reaches its maximum.
