ROBERT PARKER RATING: 95
ROBERT PARKER REVIEW: The blockbuster 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa came from two sources, the Morisoli Vineyard in St. Helena and the Cohn Vineyard in Rutherford (the source for the famous Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon). This fabulous, dense ruby/purple wine is a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. It exhibits a deep creme de cassis nose with hints of charcoal, graphite and spring flowers. Full-bodied, rich and youthful, it appears to have at least 20 years of life left in it. This is a wine that clearly flew under the radar, and if it can still be found and the provenance is excellent, it is definitely a big-time buy.
WINE SPECTATOR RATING: 94
WINE SPECTATOR REVIEW: A very stylish wine that's plush, rich and concentrated, offering an array of spicy currant, cedary oak, anise, herb and mineral flavors that are soothing, winning points for its polished texture and firm yet gentle tannins.
This opulent Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon opens with generous aromas of blueberry, blackberry and cassis that lead to layers of black licorice and mocha. The wine has the signature style of Etude with depth and richness of fruit and a velvety texture. There’s a wonderful saturation and expansiveness on the palate with flavors of black cherry, black tea, clove and vanilla bean notes from aging in French oak. The tannins are youthful and plush, which will allow this wine to age gracefully.
