ROBERT PARKER RATING: 93
ROBERT PARKER REVIEW: Last December, I mistakenly indicated the 2003s had been bottled, but in fact they were not bottled until April, 2006. The deep ruby/purple-colored 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot) possesses an extra aromatic and flavor dimension as well as a beautiful, medium to full-bodied palate, well-integrated acidity, wood, alcohol, and tannin, and a pure, rich, broad, savory personality. It is a complete wine from a very good vintage for Napa Cabernet. Drink it over the next 12-15+ years.
As I have written before, Carolyn and Perry Butler have quickly made Juslyn one of the finest sources of top quality wine on Spring Mountain. They planted their estate vineyard in 1997 and have been sourcing high quality grapes from several of Andy Beckstoffer’s top Napa Valley vineyards.
The 2003 vintage was cooler than the 2002 vintage in the Napa Valley, resulting in red wines that exhibit bright fruit and velvety tannins. Perry's Blend, named for vintner Perry Butler, drinks well alone or paired with any meal, and should age
well for several years. The Vineyard Select and Estate blends are more complex.
