2004 Nickel & Nickel Carpenter Napa Cabernet Sauvignon
SKU #500500
Due to the cooler climate of the area, this wine is filled with darker fruit flavors of ripe currant and cassis. The various layers of toffee, coffee, and earth mixed with flavors of dried herb and chocolate combine with the cedary oak to give sweet impressions on the middle palate. This concentration of flavor makes it an ideal choice to pair with many dishes. The tight core of fruit surrounded by fleshy tannins is the signature of the vineyard.

Carpenter Vineyard is located in Coombsville, an area just east of the city of Napa. Nickel & Nickel’s eight-acre block is comprised of deep, gravelly loam, and the climate is notable for its morning fog and cooler-than-average daytime temperatures. These cooler conditions and west-northwest exposure allow slow ripening and long hang time, which helps develop tannin maturity. This is one of the last Nickel & Nickelvineyards to be harvested each year.
Spring weather was warm in 2004 and the growing season started early. Budbreak and bloom were two weeks ahead of normal which was ideal in this cooler area. The vines were well balanced between canopy and crop load however we made a pass thru the vineyard during veraison to drop green fruit and open the clusters. Warm summer temperatures prevailed and produced higher sugar levels this year but we did not pick this fruit until the ripe flavors developed in early October.
