2004 Two Hands Aerope Barossa Valley Grenache South Australia

SKU #500265
Deep inky purple to black in color, the bouquet is layered and intense with notes of chocolate, rose petals, clay, scorched earth, minerals, lavender, wood oven smoke, tar and toffee. The palate starts out deep and plush with formidable weight, then hits you with an explosion of plumy dark fruits that roll on to very long soft fruity tannins; this all hangs together quite effortlessly.

JAMES HALLIDAY RATING: 92
JAMES HALLIDAY REVIEW: Some development; very fragrant and spicy; light to medium bodied, but a strong expression of the region and variety; an almost lemony tang to the fruit.
ROBERT PARKER RATING: 90
ROBERT PARKER REVIEW: The 2004 Aerope Grenache (90% Grenache and 10% Shiraz) is fashioned from the firm’s finest barrels. Although it boasts beautiful kirsch liqueur notes along with stunning elegance and richness, the day I tasted it, it was more closed and less expressive than some of its less expensive siblings. It didn’t even evolve as it sat in the glass, so I’m sure I saw it at a more diminished state.
Aerope is the third wine in our Flagship line up, representing the very best Grenache made by Two Hands. Aerope was selected from a few exceptional barrels of Grenache that came from an 80 year old dry grown vineyard on Radford Road at Greenock.
