2004 Two Hands Aphrodite Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon South Australia
SKU #500266
Deep dark crimson red. This wine needs plenty of aeration. given time it begins to exhibit distinctive Cabernet tones - complex and intense aromas of cassis, mulberry and subtle vanillin, cedary oak. Wow! This is a seriously sensuous wine. Amazing intensity - the fruit expoldes across the palate, this power is harnessed by the chalky coating silky smooth tannins; all wrapped up in very finely tuned and well balanced acid. A seamless finish that persists long after the wine has gone.
JAMES HALLIDAY RATING: 92
JAMES HALLIDAY REVIEW: Every bit as concentrated as Ares, again raising the possibility of some juice run off; the essency blackcurrant fruit has a faint fish oil aroma, curious rather than unpleasant.
ROBERT PARKER RATING: 98
ROBERT PARKER REVIEW: Wine consumers often forget just how brilliant Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon can be as the area is far more renowned for its old vine Shiraz and Grenache, but they should take a look at the 2004 Aphrodite, a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 100% new Taransaud barrels. This inky/blue/purple-hued, sexy Cabernet offers a glorious perfume of graphite, creme de cassis, smoke, and vanillin. Full-bodied and stunningly rich, with terrific purity, headiness, and laser-like definition as well as precision, this is a remarkable Cabernet Sauvignon that would turn heads even among Bordeaux first growths. It is a 30 year wine that should hit its peak in 4-5 years.
WINE SPECTATOR RATING: 91
WINE SPECTATOR REVIEW: Big and ripe, a mouthfilling Cabernet that offers a blast of raspberry and black cherry fruit, shaded with savory, meaty overtones that are reminiscent of roast game, a smoky note adding interest to the firm finish. Best from 2011 through 2019.
Aphrodite is the second wine in our Flagship line up, representing the very best Cabernet Sauvignon made by Two Hands. Crushed and fermented in 5 tonne open top fermenters with regular pump overs; three daily during peak fermentation to extract colour and tannin. Following 7-21 days of maceration the dry free run is drained to tank. The skins are then pressed and the pressings transferred to the same tank, the wine is then racked to barrel. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrel. Minimaal fining and non filtered.
