2004 Two Hands Ares Barossa Valley Shiraz South Australia
SKU #500263
This wine is big & thick, coating the entire palate and has amazing length. The flavors are all dark fruits with a burst of chocolate and liquorice, moving evenly from entry through the mid to late palate. The tannins remain fruit filled throughout, resulting in a soft and rewarding end palate leaving a lingering generous mouth-feel.

JAMES HALLIDAY REVIEW: Dense colour; ultra powerful and concentrated, and somewhat bound up in itself, albeit with sumptuous dark fruits; needs much patience.
ROBERT PARKER REVIEW: The 2004 Shiraz Ares is spectacular. Aged 12 months in 100% new French oak, the Ares is produced from the finest 20 barrels from the Bella’s Garden cuvee. Inky/blue/purple with notes of graphite, blueberries, blackberries, black currants, licorice, and smoke, this is a full-bodied, super-rich, intense, fabulously pure, rich Shiraz with a multidimensional mid-palate as well as a 45+ second finish. It will benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age, and should keep for 2-3 decades.
STEVE TANZAR REVIEW: Inky violet. Initially brooding, dense and chocolaty, then quickly unwinds to show the full range of dark fruit tones: boysenberry, mulberry, blueberry, blackberry and cassis. A complicating note of smoked meat emerges with air, along with sexy oak spice (this was raised in 100% new French oak of fancy lineage) that adds a sweet impression but doesn't get in the way. Huge, mouthfilling, layered and rich but also remarkably fresh and vibrant, with the dark berry flavors joined by a brighter cherry quality that adds vibrancy and thrust. A powerful suggestion of exotic spicecake develops on the finish, which shows big but thoroughly buffered tannins. Amazing shiraz that should develop for many years to come.
WINE SPECTATOR REVIEW: Rich and generous with its silky tannins and expressive black cherry, blackberry, huckleberry and meaty spice notes that flit through the long, round, oak-scented finish. Has great vibrancy and detail, and the finish lingers for days. Shiraz.
Ares is the very best Shiraz made at Two Hands Wines, and since Shiraz is what we do, this wine is where it's at! Made from superb fruit and representative of our fines barrels, it is a statuesque, powerful and deeply flavoured wine.
Amazing depth almost impenetrable purple black in colour. The nose is still very tight and requires plenty of air. After a while it starts to reveal layers of broody black fruit - blood plum and blackberry laced with tar, coffee and dark roasted spices. The palate offers thick generous layers of complex fruit balanced by the well integrated oak and fruit tannin. This is a really exciting ride that hits all the right notes; the 2004 will age for a very long time with a great deal of dignity.
