2005 Nickel & Nickel Copper Streak Stag's Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon
SKU #500496
The 2005 Copper Streak has a medley of interesting aromas and flavors. A nice, sweet entry of cherry and currant accompanied by layers of earth and coffee on the palate. This vintage also has hints of bacon with sweet herbs and chocolate that offer layer upon layer of flavor. Its rich, chewy, body expands on the palate, enveloped by soft, yet supple, tannins that progress into the wine’s long, sweet finish.

Copper Streak Vineyard is located in a protected hollow at the base of the palisades
in Stags Leap District. The soils are composed of Perkins gravelly loam mixed with
red, copper-like streaks, which is how the vineyard got its name. The vines receive a western exposure and are of moderate size, yielding loose clusters with small berries. The climate in Stags Leap is very warm, however, midafternoon breezes sweep in to cool things down, allowing for excellent ripening. Nickel & Nickel Copper Streak Cabernet is produced from seven of the vineyard’s 30 acres.
Although budbreak occurred on schedule, cooler weather in April delayed bloom until late May, setting the season back by two weeks. Conditions were ideal during bloom and the vineyard had a good set, which resulted in a bit more fruit than
last year. We added an adjacent block this year, which proved to be a great asset since the quality of the fruit from this new block was equal to that of the old. The summer months were very moderate and the fruit was harvested in early October
prior to any threat of rain.
