2006 Anderson's Conn Valley Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

SKU #500250
Conn Valley’s Cabernets are made from 100% estate grown grapes from the vineyards located at the winery site in Conn Valley. This vintage is a blend of numerous clonal varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, each of which contributes to the character of the wine and adds complexity. Prior to blending and bottling, the 2006 vintage was aged in the hillside caves located on the Conn Valley Estate. Dense purple, dark ruby, classic Conn Valley bouquet, cassis, cigar box, black pepper and crushed granite. Complex and dense. Full bodied, blackberries, sweet tannins, coffee, chewy and concentrated long finish, lingering aftertaste. Should age effortlessly 20-25 years.

ROBERT PARKER REVIEW: The unfined, unfiltered 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve spends two years in French oak and another year in the bottle before being released. This cuvee has a long track record of aging (the 1990 and 1991 are still going strong). The dense ruby/purple-tinged 2006 offers notes of new saddle leather, black currants, autumnal vegetation/forest floor, cassis, and cherries, superb richness, and a full-bodied, powerful finish. Cellar it for 5-6 years, and drink it over the following 25 years.
Gus and Todd Anderson, along with their partners Phyllis and Dana Gallagher, joined together in 1983 to found Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards. Gus, who had been studying Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis, and his wife Phyllis, spearheaded the long search for a dream location for a Napa Valley Vineyard. There was only one problem once they discovered the 40 acre Conn Valley site - it was not for sale. But after 15 months of negotiaions, the two couples secured the property. Todd left his profession as a geophysicist to work full time pounding posts, hammering nails, and managing the installation of 26.5 acres of prime vineyards, a 15 acre-foot reservoir and several buildings including the winery, the house and the original caves. More than 8,000 sq. feet of new caves were added in 2001. From the ground up, the Anderson's worked as a team to develop the vineyard, grow the grapes and begin producing what many have called a world-class style of wine. Today, the vineyard is licensed to produce upwards of 16,000 cases annually. The first vintage on the market was the 1988 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Within just a few years, the critics were showering the young winery with accolades and scores rated in the 90's.
