2007 Lisini Brunello di Montalcino (Closeout was $80) 750ml

From tuffaceous soil, Eocenic in origin, and 1.8 kilos of fruit per vine. Élevage is 36 months in Slavonian oak barrels (11-40 hl.) followed by 6-8 months’ bottle age. The strictest quality standards and severest selection of the grapes, together with ideal soil components and state-of-the-art vinification, express the appellation’s nobility and grandeur to the highest, purest degree. The Lisni’s use of the three different sizes of “botti” (traditional oak barrels), adds to the structure, elegance, and the typical tobacco and spice aromas. This is aimed at extracting these characteristics to their fullest, while never sacrificing balance and finesse. The Lisnis insist “technique should never be forced, and should be used with the fullest respect for the natural life process of the vines”. -Winery

JAMES SUCKLING RATING: 93

JAMES SUCKLING REVIEW: Bright and floral, with very pretty aromas of fruit too. Full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and fine tannins. I like the minerality to this. Long and caressing. Better in 2014. Consistently outstanding.

ROBERT PARKER RATING: 94

ROBERT PARKER REVIEW: The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is very beautiful in this vintage. Sweet dark cherries, flowers, mint and licorice take shape as the wine opens up in the glass. This is an especially voluminous wine endowed with tons of richness and nuance. A finessed, seamless finish laced with sweet hints of tobacco and wild flowers rounds things out in style. This is a terrific showing. Lisini gave the Brunello three years in cask. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027.

WINE ENTHUSIAST RATING: 93

WINE ENTHUSIAST REVIEW: Dark concentration with cherry liqueur, blackberry preserves, root beer, black currant, dried ginger and Spanish cedar. Stands out for complexity and persistency. Not much obvious fruit however, seems more elaborate and evolved. There’s an exotic Oriental quality to this Brunello that makes it very interesting indeed. Solid, shapely and velvety in the mouth.
