2007 Souverain Alexander Valley Sauvignon Blanc

SKU #500227
The 2008 Alexander Valley Sauvignon Blanc offers just the right balance between bright, crisp varietal character and a very gentle touch of barrel influence from the winemaker’s hand. The wine has an open, effusive nose of grapefruit zest and mandarin orange, with an orange blossom floral background. These inviting aromas echo on the palate and include a soft hint of vanilla, pear and clove spice. Vibrant acidity supports this medium-bodied Sauvignon Blanc and leads to a clean and fresh finish.

ROBERT PARKER REVIEW: A terrific bargain, the 2007 Sauvignon Blanc is a Loire Valley-styled white offering flamboyant notes of roasted herbs, Thai lemon grass, honeyed grapefruit, and a hint of peaches. Crisp and medium-bodied with delicious fruit, this sensational dry white can be enjoyed over the next 1-2 years.
All of the fruit for this wine was whole cluster pressed in order to maintain varietal character and yield the most delicate juices. Winemaker Ed Killian opted for a style that reflects classic varietal character with a softer mouthfeel. A combination of cool tank fermentation and barrel fermentation (allows for a richer flavor profile while retaining typical citrus zest aromatics. In order to achieve a delicate oak balance, the juice was fermented in a combination of once-used and 3-year-old French oak barrels and aged for five months on the lees before final blending and bottling.
