2008 Chalone Estate Grown Chardonnay

SKU #500003
Chalone Vineyard is one of the few wineries in the U.S. growing grapes in limestone-based soils, the same as in Burgundy. The spare, well-drained ground, limited rainfall and low crop levels attracted Dick Graff, who wanted to make top-flight Burgundian-styled Chardonnay. Graff made his first vintage under the Chalone Vineyard label in 1966, producing what became a benchmark for California Chardonnay.

WINE SPECTATOR RATING: 92
WINE SPECTATOR REVIEW: A rich, layered style, very Burgundian in style, with complex melon, fig, tangerine and light toasty oak. Full-bodied, deep and concentrated, yet light on its feet. Drink now through 2018.
The 2008 Chardonnay ranks among the very finest that Chalone Vineyard has produced. Bright aromas of mango, stone fruit and green apple gain intrigue from a hint of pineapple. These same fruit components dominate the rich flavors, enhanced by mineral nuances derived from our limestone soils. Chalone Chardonnay is the white wine for the red wine drinkers.
