2013 Talley Estate Arroyo Grande Pinot Noir 750ml

Quick Overview

Translucent ruby in color, the 2013 vintage expresses classic characteristics of the Arroyo Grande Valley. The nose offers bright notes of red fruits like strawberry and raspberry, as well as hints of smoke and herbs. On the palate this mediumbodied wine yields notes of cranberry, Rainier cherry and damp soil with distinct mineral notes. With a soft, plush texture, the 2013 Estate Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with spiced duck or mushroom risotto.

2013 Talley Estate Arroyo Grande Pinot Noir 750ml

The Talley family owns six unique vineyards comprising 190 acres in Southern San Luis Obispo County. The Rincon Vineyard, Rosemary's Vineyard, Monte Sereno Vineyard, and Las Ventanas Vineyard are located in the Arroyo Grande Valley. Oliver's Vineyard and the Stone Corral Vineyard are located in the neighboring Edna Valley. The Talley family also owns the 40-acre Hazel Talley Vineyard in the Templeton Gap area of Paso Robles. Cabernet franc thrives at this site, which also includes syrah, cabernet sauvignon, viognier, Grenache and petite sirah.

ANTONIO GALLONI RATING: 92

ANTONIO GALLONI REVIEW: Vivid red. Intense aromas of fresh red berries and rose oil, plus suggestions of blood orange and dusty minerals. Silky and fine-grained, offering nervy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a hint of candied rose. Delicate and precise but also deep, with gentle tannins building slowly on the long, sharply focused finish.

ALLEN MEADOWS RATING: 91

ALLEN MEADOWS REVIEW: *Outstanding* Here the nose is slightly more deeply pitched with notes of both red and dark currant, spice and cool menthol nuances. The mouth feel of the medium-bodied flavors is notably finer with both good volume and mid-palate density, all wrapped in a dusty, moderately firm and beautifully long finish that offers better depth.

ROBERT PARKER REVIEW: From the Arroyo Grande Valley and mostly from Rosemary's and Rincon Vineyards, the 2013 Pinot Noir Estate Arroyo Grande Valley saw 13 months in 30% new French oak. It's another classy, medium-bodied, well-made and juicy Pinot Noir that has classic Burgundian notes of sour cherries, rose petals and sappy underbrush.

WINE & SPIRITS RATING: 93

WINE & SPIRITS REVIEW: Grown mostly at Talley’s Rincon and Rosemary vineyards—two hilly, low-yielding sites around seven miles from the Pacific—this is vivid Pinot Noir, capturing California sunshine in its ample fruit richness, yet finding tart, crunchy detail at its edges. Its intensity feels lean and muscular rather than fat, with red raspberry and wild herbal aromas that are expansive and lasting.

WINE SPECTATOR REVIEW: Appealing, with floral and ripe raspberry scents. An elegant style, juicy and lively to drink, ending clean.
