How To Open Wine Bottle Without a Corkscrew?

Among various tactics to open wine without corkscrew, we have listed the 5 easiest ways to open a wine bottle quickly if you have misplaced or forgotten the corkscrew.

Screw and Hammer Technique

The very first on the list will certainly be the screw and hammer technique. It is the most ancient and popular way of opening wine bottle without corkscrew. Now, how to do it?

#1: Drive the screw into the cork until you can only half an inch on the top.

#2: Using a hammer, try to remove the screw slowly. You will see the cork coming out of the bottle with it.

And within a minute or so, you will have the cork out of the bottle and wine ready to pour in the glass or your mouth!

Wooden Spoon Technique

This one is also old but fancied by many, as using this technique you will push down the cork into the bottle. Yes, the cork won’t come out, instead, it will slide into the bottle right away. Anyways, you will get to drink the wine. For this technique, you will need a wooden spoon. Now let’s see how to open a bottle of wine without a bottle opener.

#1: Remove the screw cap or the wine bottle cap by twisting and pulling it.

#2: Take a wooden spatula/spoon and towel.

#3: Keep the end of the wooden spoon on the cork and cover the upper part of the bottle with a towel (to avoid wastage).

#4: Now slowly apply the pressure on the wooden spoon and the cork will slide into the bottle.

#5: Pop the stick in the bottle to allow the wine to smoothly pour into the glass.

Make sure you are using a strainer to filter the wine.

Pull Out Using a Knife

Do you have a knife with you at the moment? If yes, then using this trick you can open a wine bottle without a corkscrew. It is as easy as opening with the cork-opener, however, you will need to use some strength. Let’s see how?

#1: Use the knife to put it into the cork.

#2: Once, it is in the cork. Slowly turn around the cork and pull it upwards.

#3: After 4 or 5 rounds you will see the cork coming out of the wine bottle and it is ready to pour into the glass.

This is a rather easy process, only if you take a not-so-sharp knife to pull out the cork. You can use the same method using car keys if you don’t have a serrated knife available with you!

Slap The Cork Out!

What? Are you serious? Slap the cork out? Yes, you have to slap the bottle on its butt to pull out the cork even without touching it. It might seem impossible, but it’s true. When you tap on the bottom of a  wine bottle it builds pressure inside it which forces out the cork. But what’s the right way to do it? Let us help you!

#1: The first step during this technique is to wrap the bottle in the towel.

#2: Then sit on the chair and keep the bottle between your legs upside-down, i.e., bottom facing upwards.

#3: Take a shoe and tap on the bottle lightly for 3 to 4 times, or you can say till the cork starts coming out.

Once the cork is almost out, flip the bottle and pull it out with your hand, or else you will end up having spilled wine.

Smack It Out!

If not the slapping you can also do the smacking. You don’t have to smack the bottle, but smack the wall with the bottle. Yes, though it is similar to the previous technique, it is a relatively more spill-proof method. Yes, now let’s see how you can get the cork out of the wine bottle with smacking.

#1: Wrap the wine bottle in the towel.

#2: Take a book or the shoe as a base. What? You don’t want to break your expensive wine by smacking the bare bottle bottom on the wall.

#3: Now, slowly start smacking on the wall. With each tap, you will see the cork coming out.

Repeat the process slowly to avoid bottle breaking. Then same as above, once the cork is almost out of the bottle, pull it with your hands.
