Canard-Duchêne Cuvée Léonie Brut Champagne 750ml
1860 in Ludes, Victor Canard, A cooper, and Léonie Duchêne, from a family of "vignerons" met and fell in love. They got married, and started to make their own champagne. Success came quickly, so they then decided to set up their own Champagne house. They joined their names together, in the true Champagne tradition, and Canard-Duchêne was born. The year was 1868.
STEVE TANZAR REVIEW: Bright gold. Ripe orchard and pit fruits on the nose and in the mouth, with notes of honey and candied fig building with air. Lush and open-knit, with good heft and a touch of finishing warmth. This rich, weighty Champagne would work well with fish or poultry in a buttery sauce, or with aged, funky cheeses.
WINE ENTHUSIAST REVIEW: Named after one of the founders of Canard-Duchêne, this Pinot Noir-dominated Champagne is packed with intensely textured fruit along with some beginnings of maturity. With its powerful final acidity, it's a food wine.
WINE SPECTATOR REVIEW: Aromas of graphite and ginger pick up a citrus note on the palate. This is soft and rich, with a honeyed accent on the finish. Drink now.
