Drappier Carte d'Or Brut Champagne (Elsewhere $50) 750ml

Quick Overview

The Carte d’Or cuvée is the very expression of the Drappier style. With its very high proportion of Pinot Noir, one is almost tasting a Blanc de Noirs. Champagne with a fine aromatic richness, it opens with aromas of stoned fruits such as white vineyard peach. A spicy hint announces a powerful and complex palate. A vinous Champagne of lovely complexity with a characteristic note of quince jelly.

Drappier Carte d'Or Brut Champagne (Elsewhere $50) 750ml

The Drappier vineyard covers 100 hectares and constitutes the House’s essential trump card. Since 1808 our family has used its skill to select parcels of land which are particularly well exposed and extremely rich in limestone. For the most part they are located around Urville, where Pinot Noir, the predominant grape variety, finds its loveliest expression and allows the production of very elegant, aromatic wines.

ANTONIO GALLONI REVIEW: Light yellow-gold. Pungent aromas of orange pith, dried apple and toasty lees, with a hint of chamomile in the background. Fleshy and broad on entry, then tighter in the middle, offering bitter pear skin and quinine flavors and a touch of blood orange. Finishes with good grip and cut, leaving a subtle smoky note behind.

ROBERT PARKER REVIEW: The NV Brut Carte d'Or is a very pretty, entry-level wine graced with expressive dried pears, apricots, flowers and mint. Delicate and polished throughout, the Carte d'Or should drink nicely for the next few years. Fresh, floral notes add lift on the finish.

WINE ENTHUSIAST REVIEW: With some good maturity, this is a rich, fruity Champagne. It comes from the southern Aube region, which endows a more tropical feel, bringing out melon and apricot fruit flavors as well as crisper citrus. A great apéritif style, it will also go with food.

WINE SPECTATOR RATING: 91

WINE SPECTATOR REVIEW: Granny Smith apple, toasted almond, currant and whole-grain toast flavors are fresh and well-meshed, structured by bright acidity and a lively bead. Offers a creamy finish, with hints of smoke and honeycomb. Drink now through 2018.
