2019 Labégorce Margaux
Bordering on châteaux Margaux and Lascombes, this property is mentioned in the 1868 edition of Cocks and Feret (“Bordeaux and its Wines”), which tells us of the existence since 1332 of “a vineyard belonging to the noble La Bégorce family”. The château is described as “... one of the most beautiful and best situated in the town of Margaux”. The Perrodo family acquired Labégorce in 1989 and renovated not only the château building, but also the vineyard. They also improved winemaking, and Labégorce is now a charming wine with beautiful structure, bright fruit, and great finesse. The Perrodo family also acquired in 2006 Château Marquis d’Alesme, a third growth Margaux, which they aim to transform into one of the jewels of the appellation.$39.9018 -
2019 Gloria St-Julien
Winery Notes- Henri Martin’s lifetime achievement was no doubt the creation of Château Gloria. Row by row of vines, parcel by parcel, he patiently and systematically negotiated with his owner friends in the commune of Saint-Julien to buy these various “cru classé” parcels superbly situated on Günzian gravel, which were to eventually make up the Château Gloria estate. This was a real feat, as the Saint-Julien vineyards cover 900 hectares and almost all of them belong to the appellation’s 11 “grands crus classes”. The plan came to fruition in the 1970s, with an estate covering 44 hectares, mostly made up of “cru classé” terroirs, some of them being among the most prestigious. 6 hectares have since been added. So why isn’t the Château a “cru classé”? The answer is simple: it didn’t exist at the time of the 1855 classification. This Saint-Julien Château nevertheless lives up to its name, alluding to glory and success, but also faith: the faith of a man of our time who managed to “invent” a new “cru” and bring it up to the highest level of recognition.$49.906 -
2018 de Pez St-Estèphe
Winery Notes- The vintage is dense in color, retaining a purplish-blue hint typical of wines that are slow to develop. The slightly toasty nose has plenty of red- and black- berry fruit and a hint of jamminess mingled with aromas of spice and tobacco. The nose is what you would expect of a wine made from very ripe grapes. It is already deliciously complex. The palate is entirely consistent with the nose. The attack is still firm at this stage but developing in a manner that instantly suggests an opulent wine. Good, well-rounded substance lingers elegantly on the palate, with silky tannins and not a trace of harshness. This is truly an exceptional wine: thoroughbred, elegant and rich.$49.906 -
