2022 Dr. Loosen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett Mosel
Winery Notes- This precipitously steep and rocky vineyard (VAY-len-er ZON-en-ooer) yields some of the most elegant and sophisticated white wines in the world. The classic blue slate soil gives the wine a delicate, crisp acidity that perfectly balances the pure peach and lemon fruit. It’s a charming wine that dances gracefully on the palate.$24.907 -
2021 Robert Weil Kiedricher Turmberg Riesling Trocken Rheingau
Winery Notes- Kiedrich Turmberg (“tower hill”), a separate slope adjacent to the Gräfenberg vineyard, is rated as premier cru. The German wine law of 1971 had incorporated Turmberg into the Gräfenberg, but in 2005 it was reinstated as an individual, classified site. The steep, southwest-facing site has a slate base with a thin topsoil layer composed of stony, gritty phyllite mixed with loess and loam. It produces very fine, elegant wines that are less massive than their counterparts from the Gräfenberg. Turmberg is wholly owned by Weingut Robert Weil. The Turmberg Trocken (dry) is bright and pure, with a lovely herbal tone that is characteristic of this site. It has a finely focused mineral structure and a juicy grip on the palate.Rating(s)$49.908 -
2021 Robert Weil Spätlese Riesling Rheingau
Winery Notes- The Estate Spätlese is sourced from parcels that neighbor the estate’s classified single-vineyard sites. It also includes preselection fruit from the top sites, which gives the wine an extra dimension of fruit and mineral intensity. This wine superbly displays Spätlese’s riper, richer style from late-picked fruit.Rating(s)$39.908 -
2021 Zilliken Rausch Kabinett Riesling Mosel
Winery Notes- Grown in the steep, slate slopes of the historic Rausch vineyard, this Kabinett entices with a stunning blend of filigreed mystery and finesse. Delicate aromas dance from ripe apple and grapefruit to lemon verbena and wild mint on the smoky slate foundation for which the Rausch is known. The sprightly character continues on the palate, playing peek-a boo from beneath gauzy layers of fruit, herbal elegance and spice. Balanced juiciness with great grip, crisp acidity and a long, lingering lemon finish. Still quite young but the future ahead is bright and beautiful.Rating(s)$33.9011 -
2021 Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Auslese Mosel
Winery Notes- The terrifyingly steep Brauneberg hillside has been revered as a top vineyard site since the Romans first cultivated wine grapes in the Mosel valley in the second century. The Juffer vineyard surrounds the smaller Juffer Sonnenuhr on three sides, extending both upstream and downstream, as well as above the sundial. This vineyard produces lighter, more delicate wines than the warmer, riper Sonnenuhr. Auslese is a special selection of late-picked, very ripe clusters with about 50 percent botrytis-affected grapes.$39.9012 -
2020 Zilliken Estate Riesling Mosel
Winery Notes- Like the song says: summertime and the Riesling is easy. This is the fruity (“lieblich”) counterpart to the Butterfly Riesling. Pretty flavors of citrus and orchard fruits drift like a lazy raft on a summer lake while the crisp acidity balances the fruitiness and keeps the wine nearly weightless as it floats across the palate. Long, meandering finish of lemon zest and apple tart.$17.9015 -
2021 Von Schubert Maximin Grunhaus Schloss Riesling Trocken Mosel
Winery Notes- A precise and delicately defined dry-style Riesling, harvested from this estate’s wholly-owned hillside of contiguous vineyards. The wine perfectly captures the exotic fruit and delicate precision that are classic characteristics of the Grünhaus estate. It is made in the German trocken (dry ) style, which balances a small amount of residual sweetness (less than nine grams per liter) with vibrant acidity.Rating(s)$24.9024 -
2021 Von Schubert Maximin Grunhaus Herrenberg Riesling Kabinett Mosel
Winery Notes- The Herrenberg vineyard is based more on red slate than its neighbor Abtsberg. It also has deeper topsoil that retains more water, which can be of great benefit in dry years. The wines are more generous and tend to open up sooner than those of Abtsberg, but are capable of equal longevity. This wine is produced in the delicate Kabinett style, and exhibits the distinctive stone fruit flavors and red slate minerality that are typical of this vineyard’s terroir. 94 points by James Suckling.com - Complex nose of peach, mango chutney and fresh herbs. At once succulent and vibrant, this is a very beautiful Kabinett that is hard to resist (at least if you like white wines with bright fruit aromas). Staggering vitality at the very long crystalline finish.Rating(s)$39.901 -
2021 Dr. Loosen Bernkasteler Lay Riesling Kabinett Mosel
Winery Notes- Bernkasteler Lay (pronounced LIE) is situated between the Dr. Loosen estate house and the village of Bernkastel. The soil is predominantly slate, but is heavier and deeper than in the neighboring villages of Wehlen and Graach. This site also has a slightly gentler slope than the estate’s other vineyards. It produces richly textured, assertive wines.Rating(s)$23.9013 -
2021 Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Trocken
Winery Notes- This dry wine is a cuvée that is 75% from the Juffer vineyard and 25% from the Sonnenuhr, which is the steepest part of the hillside slope. In most vintages, a brief maceration is used to help soften the brisk acidity before fermentation in stainless steel. It is lively and focused, with pure, clear fruit aromas and rich citrus power on the palate.Rating(s)$27.909 -
2021 Fritz Haag Estate Riesling Mosel
Winery Notes- This Estate Riesling is made in a slightly off-dry style that perfectly balances Mosel Riesling’s typically crisp acidity. This makes it a very refreshing choice to serve as an aperitif, as a partner for lighter dishes or with reception appetizers.$19.9018
