2021 Folktale Monterey County Carbonic Sangiovese
Winery Notes- Our Carbonic Sangiovese is a labor of love for all of us who help make this special wine. It is farmed 100% by hand by our cellar and operations crew. Among the 7 of us, we all contribute our expertise to produce a lovely and unique crop. Once harvested, the organic grapes were gently sorted and placed into bins and purged of oxygen via dry ice nuggets. After a few weeks, we gently pressed the grapes and finished fermenting the juice before racking the wine to neutral French oak barrels for 6 months. The wine was bottled in May, and will be enjoyed all summer long.$29.9012 -
2021 Folktale The Lion For Real Skin Fermented Monterey County White Wine (Orange Wine)
Winery Notes- At it’s core, this is a skin fermented white wine thatis a blend of every vintage since 2017. We’re making this in a Solera-style, where each year we blend in a fresh, young vintage giving the wine vibrancy and an aromatic boost. But, on the flipside, having a significant aged portion allows for the wine to express itself in a more mature way, blending itself beautifully into many food pairings you might throw at it. It’s more diverse than you think, and being un-fined and un-filtered means that you’re tasting the wine in it’s natural setting- just as Mother Nature (and we) intended. Components from the 2021 portion consisted predominantly of Chardonnay from Massa Estatein Carmel Valley – an organically farmed vineyard in the Santa Lucia Mountains. The grapes were destemmed and natively fermented in small open top tanks. Pressing in our basket press took place once the fermentations wrapped up and and the wine was racked to neutral French oak to age. Blending of the 2021 portion and the solera took place just before bottling in June 2022.$24.9010 -
Folktale California Brut Sparkling Wine
Winery Notes- Folktale sparkling wine begins in the vineyard, early. Grapes for sparkling wine have to be picked at a lower sugar level than for our still wines, so we tend to harvest 3 weeks before we begin picking fruit for our still wines. For our first bottling of sparkling wine, we envisioned a wine that was bright, fun to drink, and food friendly. We put the blend together in a stainless steel tank and add bubbles through a forced carbonation method. This allows us to control the level of effervescence and achieve the desired texture of the wine. We targeted a softer, less aggressive style that was more like the texture of a prosseco or frizzante wine – perfect for a sunny day in Carmel Valley.$24.9021 -
2021 Folktale Talking Animals Pétillant-Naturel (Pet-Nat) Sparkling Wine
Winery Notes- Pétillant Natural is a natural sparkling wine using the ancestral method. Bottled just before the primary fermentation finishes, the natural effervescence and sediment are the evidence of things finishing in the bottle. The wine is bright, with notes of green apple, banana cream pie, grapefruit blossom, and undertones of guava and pineapple. The palate is lively and fresh, benefitting from the abundance of bubbles and bright acidity.$29.9010 -
2022 Folktale Whole Cluster Reserve Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir
The 2022 Folktale Whole Cluster Reserve Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir is a wine of elegance and finesse. On the nose, it unveils a captivating bouquet of red berries, with fresh strawberries and raspberries taking center stage, and subtle hints of rose petals and clove adding complexity. The first sip is a delightful revelation, as flavors of ripe cherries and cranberries dance gracefully on the palate, harmoniously interwoven with a touch of baking spices and earthy undertones. This Pinot Noir exudes a silky texture that coats the mouth, while its well-balanced acidity keeps it vibrant and lively. The finish is long and memorable, leaving a lingering impression of red fruit and a whisper of forest floor.$29.908 -
2019 The Grenachista Mathis Vineyard Sonoma Valley Grenache Noir (Natural Wine)
Winery Notes- Concentrated presence of fresh strawberries and foraged wild berries, bing cherries, pomegranate, cinnamon, coriander, dried rose petal, exuberant yet disciplined, with a core of red currants, heady black cherry and minerality closing with piercing finesse. Sourced from the Peter Mathis’s vineyard, high above the east side of the Sonoma Valley above the small town of Boyes Hot Springs. This is one of our favorite spots. Small berry clones plus very tight vine spacing gives this vineyard some of the best concentration of Grenache around. We are incredibly honored to receive fruit from this 7 acre gem and this wine won’t disappoint.$28.909 -
2022 The Grenachista Pétulant Naturel Dry Creek Valley Grenache Noir (Natural Wine)
Winery Notes- A light carbonation that instantly brings strawberry and oyster shells to the nose, this 100% Grenache Noir is perfect for sipping on a warm, spring day. The secondary hints of raspberries, candied ginger, and dried cranberries play perfectly off of the austere acid that gives this wine a great backbone. We’re really pleased with this wine and can’t wait for you to try it.$29.9010 -
2022 The Grenachista Sonoma Valley Grenache Blanc (Natural Wine)
Winery Notes- Our third Grenache Blanc from our new estate vineyard, hence forth known as Kitty Face Vineyard, located in the eastern Sonoma Valley. This wine provokes aromatics of fresh lemon and green apples, tropical melon, sea salt, blood orange and fall pears with a hint of grated nutmeg, fennel and dill seed. It then expands to a broad palate filled with apricots, lemon curd and brioche. Maintaining our signature synthesis of honeyed stone fruits polarized by lively acidity and piercing minerality gaining momentum of richness and depth on the finish. Whole cluster pressed, native primary fermentation with no malolactic fermentation, aged sur lie in a concrete egg for one year. Never fined and only lightly filtered.$21.9010 -
2021 Bonny Doon Le Cigare Volant Monterey County Rhône Blend
Winery Notes- In cool years the Grenache is enormously pretty and fragrant. This was the first year of production for the Cinsault and it was thinned multiple times both for enhanced concentration and evenness of ripening. The cooler climate gives the Cinsault a wonderful articulation of flavor, but what is most noteworthy is the fact that we were able to co-ferment the Cinsault with Syrah. Something magical happens with Cinsault and Syrah marry; the healthy tannin titer from the Syrah seems to give more structure to the Cinsault and helps to stabilize color. The spicy licorice component from the Syrah is a perfect foil to the Griotte cherry derived from the Cinsault.$14.9011 -
2022 Bonny Doon Vin Gris de Cigare Central Coast Rosé

2022 Haarmeyer Wirz Vineyard Cienaga Valley Riesling Orange
Winery Notes- The Wirz vineyard was planted by Almaden in 1963, back when big wineries were still planting vines on their own roots and furrow irrigation. Miraculously, the vineyard remains intact, thanks to work of the Wirz family. They were hired by Almaden to farm it because they lived on the property. Almaden eventually sold the vineyard to Pat Wirz’s father and Pat is the man who has been in charge for the past 45 years, farming it as his father once did with strict practices that honor the old tradition of caring for the land as well as the vines. The site is just east of the San Andreas Fault. This piece of land has a limestone base with decomposed granite overlaying. Although it sits at about 1,000 feet above sea level and gets some marine air, the days are frequently quite warm. The vines are head-trained, tiny bush vines spaced ten feet apart and the clusters range in size from golf ball to baseball. The yield is typically about one ton per acre.$26.906 -
2020 Lucid Skin Contact California White Wine Blend (Natural Wine)
Winery Notes- 50% skin contact fermentation for 2 weeks to extract intense aromatics & full body from the skins, which also contributes the orange color (since the skin of white grapes is golden, white grapes fermented on the skins have a golden or orange color). After pressing off the wine from skins, the wine is then aged 3-15 months on about 40% new French oak for a vanilla/coconut/caramel backbone, as well as apple wood (to enhance apple notes), peach wood (to enhance peach and tropical notes) & acacia wood (to add a floral note). Natural malolactic fermentation (slight lemon-butter sauce note) and aging on the yeast lees (creamy, cheesy, nutritional yeast, umami) create a pastry-like complexity and smoothness to the finish. The wine was then finished with brief aging on whiskey charred oak to add a very subtle smoky, whiskey-like high note. A note on the skin contact, orange wine, golden wine technique: This is basically red winemaking technique but used on white wines. You ferment the entire grape together, skins & juice together. This is used with red wines because the juice of the grape is clear, and red wine color and weight and spicy flavors come from the skins, so to make a red wine you need to have skin contact. Similarly, if you ferment a white grape’s juice with the skins, you extract the skin’s color (golden in this case) and weight and spicy flavors from the golden skins of the “white” grape. In most modern winemaking, on the other hand, just the white juice is fermented, to create a light, simple white/clear wine. But this is just the modern thing; historically, for most of human history, skin contact / golden / orange winemaking was the norm. This style has experienced a revival recently since this historical fact was discovered by an alcohol archeologist, Patrick McGovern (interestingly, his work is also the basis of many of Dogfish Head Brewery’s experimental beers).$24.904 -
2020 Lucid Wanderlust California Red Blend (Natural Wine)
Winery Notes- Blackberry, fig, plum jam, peppery spice and a smoked meat note support a bevy of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove pie-like-spice. The fruit for this wine was harvested late to maximize ripe and dark fruit flavors, then aged in French oak barrels with a good dose of whiskey-charred American oak as well as maple, hickory, mesquite & Brazilian Amburana woods.$24.905
