NINER BOOT JACK RANCH
2004
(WAS $17)
This vintage of our Merlot is driven by dark fruits and nice tannins. Blackberry, black plum and black cherry are all discernable. A hint of red cherry balances out the fruit profile, and a bit of pepper and funk from the Syrah add a nice layer of complexity. The tannins are noticeable, but pretty, balancing out the wine very nicely.

JOSEPH PHELPS INSIGNIA
2006
(EVERY WHERE ELSE $160)
ROBERT PARKER RATING: 95
WINE SPECTATOR RATING: 94
CONNOISSEURS GUIDE RATING: 95
The opaque, inky color of the 2006 Insignia is followed by concentrated aromatics of lush black fruit, graphite, coffee, dark cocoa powder, licorice, and cola syrup. The dense flavors and balanced tannins integrate beautifully for a long, layered finish.
Made in a dense, full-bodied, muscular style, it is less charming than the 2005, with high tannin, extract, and richness. The blackberry and cassis characteristics are accompanied by notions of damp earth, subtle oak, licorice, and forest floor. It, too will benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age, and should drink well for two decades or more.
-ROBERT PARKER REVIEW
Teasing with its floral, spicy cherry, wild berry and currant aromas, this is full-bodied, firm and structured, tight and focused, offering glimpses of what lies ahead with its complex mix of flavors and tightly wound tannins. Yet its finesse and refinement are apparent on the finish. Needs time. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Best from 2011 through 2018.
-WINE SPECTATOR REVIEW
Already amazingly seductive with wonderfully rich aromas of sweet oak, cocoa and fully expressed fruit making a first-rate introduction, this riveting young wine in no way lets up on the palate and delivers deep, multi-faceted flavors that combine ripeness, sweet oak and very precise fruit in near-perfect proportion. As is often the case with Insignia bottlings, it is so beautifully balanced that it invites early drinking, and, while we do not condemn giving in to its charms, we also would lobby strongly for patience as its best lies years down the line.

SEVEN HILLS CIEL DU CHEVAL VINEYARD
2007
WINE SPECTATOR RATING: 93
2007 gave us dramatically riper fruit, the product of accelerated August and early September ripening weather. The blend is again dominated by Cabernet, and rounded with a large portion of Merlot. We've increased the percentage of Petit Verdot to bolster the structure, color and savory component. Cabernet Franc lends grace notes and elegance to the palate. The color is strong purple, the nose evocative of ripe plum preserves, pepper, dried herb and sweet baking spice. The palate is laid on a solid tannic structure, but with softly balanced acidity, and black fruits of depth and persistence. I would say that this is a somewhat bigger, more forward style than is usual with our Ciel bottlings, and is truly reflective of the 2007 vintage conditions. I predict it to age well for 5-10 years from the vintage date.
Polished, round and effortlessly focused, with impressive cherry, beet and pomegranate aromas and flavors, persisting beautifully against mineral and spice notes on the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.

LEWELLING WIGHT VINEYARD
2006
ROBERT PARKER RATING: 94
Sumptuous aromas of rich dark berries, vanilla, and sweet smoke. Sweet black cherry and blackberry flavors mingled with tobacco, mineral and wood smoke; bold, substantial tannins, mouthfilling richness, layered complexity, and a strong finish
Slightly deeper, fuller, and more structured, with noticeably higher tannin is the opaque purple-hued 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Wight Vineyard. Sharing many of the same characteristics as its less expensive sibling, it also reveals notes of creme de cassis, smoky charcoal, graphite, and earth as well as a bigger framework and structured tannins, both nicely supported by an extravagant wealth of fruit and richness.

O'SHAUGHNESSY HOWELL MOUNTAIN
2006
ROBERT PARKER RATING: 94
The only 2006 I tasted is a re-evaluation of the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain, which is performing better now than it did last year. A dense purple color in addition to plenty of creme de cassis, crushed rock, blueberry, and brioche-like notes are found in this full-bodied Cabernet. It avoids the rustic tannins of this vintage, and exhibits good sweetness and purity of fruit. Consume it over the next 15-20 years.

VARNER BEE BLOCK
2007
ROBERT PARKER RATING: 95
The incredible 2007 Chardonnay Bee Block is a tour de force in mountain Chardonnay. Honeysuckle, creme brulee, buttered citrus, white peach, and baked apple characteristics emerge from this full-bodied, intense effort. With great acidity as well as fabulous precision and purity, it can be enjoyed over the next 7-8 years.

WALTER HANSEL CUVEE ALYCE
2007
ROBERT PARKER RATING: 94
The 2007 Chardonnay Cuvee Alyce is sensational. Named after Stephen Hansel’s recently deceased 90-year-old mother, the wine has admirable minerality, plenty of honeysuckle, hints of pear, white peach, and pineapple, a deep, full-bodied mouthfeel with subtle smokiness from oak, very good acidity, and a long, concentrated finish. This is likely to be the longest-lived of the Chardonnays and capable of lasting for up to 7-10 years

75 WINE CO. THE SUM
2007
ROBERT PARKER RATING: 90
This amazingly well endowed profoundly rich red wine must be smelled and tasted to be believed. The color is a rich, deep purple garnet and gives but a small hint as to what’s inside.
The nose gives off soaring and wonderfully focused aromas of ripe stone fruit, vanilla, cherries, cedar cigar box, blackberries and cinnamon. In the mouth, there are layers upon layers of broad, sweet opulent fruit balanced by firm tannins, great acidity and oak. This wine truly showcases the potential of blending and is a must have.
The real star, and a great bargain, is the 2007 The Sum – The Seventy-Five Wine Company. This is an absolute steal when it comes to high-class wine. A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Syrah, and 10% Petite Sirah, there are 5,200 cases of this wine, which is truly outstanding and an amazing value. Sweet blue and black fruits, camphor, and spice box all jump from the glass of this dense, medium to full-bodied, juicy, supple wine, which is a hedonist’s dream come true. This is a beauty to drink over the next 4-5 years. California and Napa Valley need wines like this. Don’t dare pass it by!

MARIETTA CELLARS ALEXANDER VALLEY
2006
ROBERT PARKER RATING: 90
The dense ruby/purple-tinged 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals classic aromas of creme de cassis, licorice, earth, and spice box in addition to chewy, rich, concentrated flavors, moderate, sweet tannin, and a long, heady finish. If past renditions are any indication, this spicy, hardy Cabernet Sauvignon should age effortlessly for 15 or more years.

CHAPPELLETT SIGNATURE
2007
Cinnamon and cocoa scents mingle with the aromas of black cherry, blackberry, and toasty oak. Robust flavors of espresso and red and black fruits layer deep into the core of this delicious wine. Elegant tannins round into the firm backbone of the wine, while an impression of bittersweet chocolate hangs gently on the aftertaste.

ORIN SWIFT SALDO
2008
The 2008 Saldo is rich, ripe, and full-bodied, with aromas of black cherry and bramble fruit. The tannins are soft but the wine has a huge mid-palate. The soft, lush finish lingers. 2008 was a perfect vintage for Saldo. The hot weather was ideal for creating ripe zinfandel. Drink now and enjoy over the next five years.

KLINKER BRICK FARRAH
2007
WINE SPECTATOR RATING: 91
This is a single vineyard wine has a deep, rich garnet color and shows tobacco, mint and cherries on the nose. With dense silky layers of raspberry and chocolate, this fullbodied wine finishes with hints of earth and spice with a long, smooth finish.
Smooth, rich and complex, showing tiers of ripe plum, blackberry and wild berry, with notable cedary dill- and vanilla-laced oak. But this is very nicely proportioned, ending with a long, lingering finish.

MOLLYDOOKER TWO LEFT FEET
2006
ROBERT PARKER RATING: 93
The 2006 Shiraz (68%) – Merlot (17%) – Cabernet Sauvignon (15%) “Two Left Feet” is a glass-coating opaque purple color. The brooding nose reveals plummy dark fruits, blueberry, licorice, and a hint of chocolate. On the palate it is thick, layered, and voluptuous. The structure is well-concealed and the wine is seamless and very long. It will reward a few years of cellaring but delaying gratification will be difficult. It is a great value.

ALTOCEDRO ANO CERO

WINES & SPIRITS RATING: 91
Altocedro Año Cero Malbec—85% Malbec, 15% Tempranillo –aged for 6 months in oak, deep purple color, sweet tannins, aromas of red fruit, spice, and flowers. A huge extraction and a long silky finish.
From La Consulta, in the heights of the Uco Valley, this wine's red fruit has a nervous energy. The flavors are firm and fresh with a flavorful depth, all subtly complemented by lingering notes of black pepper.

CASANOVA DI NERI
2004
ROBERT PARKER RATING: 93
WINE SPECTATOR RATING: 96
The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova reveals layers of dark perfumed fruit intermingled with French oak, spices, minerals, violets and licorice. The Tenuta Nuova is impressive mostly for its textural richness and sheer depth, both qualities it has in spades. The finish is long, sweet and pure. Here, too, the wine will need at least a few years in bottle before its full range of aromas and flavors emerges. Neri gave the Tenuta Nuova 30 months in medium-sized French oak tonneaux. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2024.
-ROBERT PARKER REVIEW
Offers crushed berries, with flowers and sandalwood. The nose is reserved, but interesting. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long, long finish. Very tight and stylish. Racy and powerful.

BODEGAS ORBEN ORBEN
2005
ROBERT PARKER RATING: 92
WINE SPECTATOR RATING: 90
The 2005 Orben is sourced from 75 micro-parcels of old vines of Tempranillo planted between 1945 and 1954. The wine is a glass-coating purple. Aromas of slate, cedar, tobacco, blueberry, and blackberry lead to a muscular, structured wine which is a bit tightly wound but well-balanced. Intense, concentrated, and lengthy. This large-scaled effort needs 5-7 years of cellaring, and should be at its best from 2015 to 2030.
-ROBERT PARKER REVIEW
This chewy red shows impressive concentration, with black cherry, blackberry and cassis flavors backed by leaf, mineral and toast notes. Fruit-centered, balanced and clean. Drink now through 2015.
