2022 Ink Grade Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc (Was $75)
Winery Notes- Working with concrete, stainless steel and large oak vessels to marry textures and weights; working with lees to enhance the saline quality; and pressing longer to build structure and expose a minor note of bitterness on the finish. A refreshing and vibrant wine with excellent acidity, our 2022 Sauvignon Blanc is the most exceptional vintage to date. Produced from older vines, this wine expresses notes of star fruit, lemongrass, nectarine, lemon zest, and a natural salinity reminiscent of an ocean mist. The weight and texture of the palate are held together by the bright acidity, leading to a lengthy finish. A double or triple decant elevates all elements of this wine now, or it will open on its own in 2026. 2022 Emmolo (Caymus) Napa Valley Merlot (Elsewhere $55)
Jenny Wagner, the youngest offspring of Chuck Wagner, renowned for Caymus wines, serves as the winemaker at Emmolo Winery, a namesake tribute to her mother, Cheryl Emmolo. The Emmolo family boasts a rich legacy deeply rooted in Napa Valley. In 1923, great-grandfather Salvatore Emmolo initiated a grape rootstock nursery, a tradition continued by his son Frank. Under Frank's stewardship, the family property saw the cultivation of Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot, marking a significant chapter in the Emmolo family's enduring connection with the Napa Valley. Nose: Cocktail cherries and sweet spice, with notes of savory bread, newly oiled leather and pronounced French oak. Palate: Smooth upon entry, with a richness that builds. Flavors of cherry, spice and savory bread carry over from the nose, with lush plums and a hint of jerky. Dusty, powdery tannins lend softness. 2021 Hitching Post Highliner Sideways 20 Year Anniversary Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir
Winery Notes- We selected our flagship wine for this commemorative bottling. “Highliner” is an assemblage of only the best lots of all the different Pinot Noirs we make each vintage. Consequently, it earns consistent high praise. The fruit for 2021 Highliner came from 5 different vineyards with the majority sourced from the iconic Sanford & Benedict Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills appellation. All vineyards and clones are harvested and produced separately using traditional burgundian techniques. 20 months barrel age in French oak along with masterful blending, brought all the elements to a harmonious whole. "We enjoy making Highliner the most of any of our wines,” states Frank Ostini. “Utilizing the different flavors and textures from all of these vineyards creates a complex and balanced wine that plays to the many keys of Pinot Noir. The 2021 vintage is the best vintage of the 2000s to date.” The moniker “Highliner” refers to the best fishermen in the fleet and references Gray Hartley’s nearly 30 years in the fishing industry prior to winemaking. 2022 Quivira Fig Tree Vineyard Dry Creek Valley Sauvignon Blanc
Winery Notes- The wine is a beautiful pale-yellow color that is star bright with a tinge of green. The nose has classic Sauvignon Blanc notes of grapefruit, underripe pear and lemon. Add to these aromas of hibiscus flower and just a whisp of almond macaroon and toasted coconut. The palate has eyebrow raising acidity up front which rounds out seamlessly through the middle. Flavors of lemon bar, clementine and kumquat are wrapped in river rock minerality with freshness akin to a tropical rainstorm. A beautiful expression of our cool microclimate in Dry Creek Valley. -
