2023 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Champans
Winery Notes- Domaine Marquis d'Angerville owns 3.98 hectares in the Champans appellation, located just north of the Caillerets appellation. Two parallel plots make up our part of the appellation (11 hectares in total). They extend from the top to the bottom of the Champans climate and the hillside, thus taking advantage of all the characteristics of this remarkable terroir facing south-east, located in the centre of the Premiers Crus de Volnay. The soil is poorer and rests on a rocky limestone bank at the top of the hillside while the slope decreases towards the bottom and it becomes more clayey, stony and deeper. Historically classified as a Têtes de Cuvée de Volnay, Champans is the archetype of the great Volnay 1 er cru: finesse, fullness and length in the mouth with an extra generosity and power of its own. Depending on the vintage, it deserves 5 to 10 years of ageing to fully reveal itself, but it is generally more easily approached young than Taillepieds or Clos des Ducs.$229.903 -

2021 Ulysses Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Ulysses vineyard was acquired in 2008 by Christian Moueix. Situated along Napa Valley’s Oakville bench and extending over an alluvial fan at the foot of the Mayacamas Range, the site was once part of the famed Charles Hopper ranch and it is exceptional for winegrowing. The soil is composed of deep, gravelly, clay loam and is particularly well-suited to growing Cabernet Sauvignon. Since the acquisition, Christian Moueix and his team have pursued an in-depth understanding of the soil and microclimate and have undertaken a lengthy and meticulous vineyard restoration. Dry farming, the foundation of Ulysses’ sustainable farming practices, enhances root depth and resistance to drought, resulting in a wine that is a pure expression of terroir. The winemaking team’s intention is to produce a wine reflecting the exceptional potential and individuality of the Ulysses vineyard. The approach is minimalist, with attentive observation and restrained intervention. Harvested at perfect ripeness with the utmost care, the grapes undergo both cluster and berry selection before a gentle vinification and aging. Ulysses is a distinctive Cabernet Sauvignon with a touch of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It should be decanted prior to serving. 2020 Niner Estates Bootjack Paso Robles Red Blend (Was $30)
Winery Notes- We hand-sorted, destemmed and grav ity fed the grapes into a combination of stainless steel tanks and one French oak tank. We fermented each varietal separately to preserve their unique characteristics and after 19 months, composed the final blend. The blend aged an additional month in barrels before it was bottled. A total of 20 months of aging with a lighter oak impact (36% new French oak) helped us retain balance and pure fruit expression. The base of this blend is made of three different varietals each of which contributes unique elements to the finished wine. Cabernet Franc adds herbal notes and tannin structure, Cabernet Sauvignon adds red fruit qualities and garnet color, and Malbec adds dark fruit characteristics and a plush, juicy mouthfeel. With notes of dried cherry, rhubarb and brushy herbs, this wine is ready to drink now.$19.9012 -
