These conditions resulted in exceptional concentration and purity, firmly establishing 2021 as one of Napa’s top-tier vintages and a favorite of collectors. -

2021 Ulysses Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Ulysses vineyard was acquired in 2008 by Christian Moueix. Situated along Napa Valley’s Oakville bench and extending over an alluvial fan at the foot of the Mayacamas Range, the site was once part of the famed Charles Hopper ranch and it is exceptional for winegrowing. The soil is composed of deep, gravelly, clay loam and is particularly well-suited to growing Cabernet Sauvignon. Since the acquisition, Christian Moueix and his team have pursued an in-depth understanding of the soil and microclimate and have undertaken a lengthy and meticulous vineyard restoration. Dry farming, the foundation of Ulysses’ sustainable farming practices, enhances root depth and resistance to drought, resulting in a wine that is a pure expression of terroir. The winemaking team’s intention is to produce a wine reflecting the exceptional potential and individuality of the Ulysses vineyard. The approach is minimalist, with attentive observation and restrained intervention. Harvested at perfect ripeness with the utmost care, the grapes undergo both cluster and berry selection before a gentle vinification and aging. Ulysses is a distinctive Cabernet Sauvignon with a touch of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It should be decanted prior to serving. In 2021, Ulysses received its CCOF («California Certified Organic Farmers») certification for organic farming practices.$149.904 -

2021 Ovid Napa Valley Proprietary Red
Winery Notes- Though OVID Napa Valley is a consistently powerful, stoic, sculpted wine with recognizable characteristics across vintages, it also encapsulates our openness as winegrowers to new ideas. We believe to become set in one’s ways or dependent on formula is to lose touch with the nature of wine itself. In that spirit, the goal of blending OVID Napa Valley is about understanding this place, not showcasing Cabernet Sauvignon. Our aim is to listen to the individual lots of wines each year after harvest and about six months of barrel aging. We look for common themes, compelling flavors, intriguing ideas and then explore each pathway to see how it plays out. Thus, the final wine exists at a meeting point between the desires of the vineyard, vintage and our own sense of the wine’s ideal form.$389.903 -
2021 Fortunate Son (Hundred Acre) The Dreamer Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Winery Notes- Sourced from small, family vineyards, (in some cases for 3-4 generations) that are farmed with great care and attention. These vineyards (some are 80+ years old) have been brought together, actually woven together, so the magical fruit could at last become Fortunate Son.$164.903 -
2021 Keenan Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Winery Notes- The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is composed primarily of grapes grown on Keenan’s Spring Mountain District Estate; the remainder of the fruit was harvested from Pope Valley, a grape growing region located in the eastern portion of Napa. Keenan’s Estate Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were harvested beginning on September 7th with the final lot being picked on September 15th. After harvest, the fruit clusters were de-stemmed, then fermented for ten to fourteen days. The wine was barrel aged in thirty-three percent new French and American oak for twenty months. The blend was assembled just before bottling. The Estate grown Cabernet imparts amazing concentration and remarkable structure, while the portion of Cabernet harvested from Pope Valley adds complex aromas and a balanced mid-palate. -
2021 Chateau Montelena Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Winery Notes- The density and richness of this wine are teased right from the start. Pomegranate, plum and dried blackberry lead a lavish charge of ripe, dark fruit. In the midst, there’s a hint of barrel toast, first as charcoal and then as fresh wood. The aromas remain elevated, with potpourri and black pepper initially, and then concluding with fig jam and cherry tobacco. This Cabernet has all of the markers of a great Montelena wine. The palate is bursting with a dynamic and seemingly haphazard array of fruit, acid and tannin, all tied together with fresh mint and graphite. Rest assured, all of these elements will settle into place over time. There’s a beautiful, almost velvety, softness from the Merlot that rounds off most of the coarse edges and lends refinement. Best of all, this wine is approachable now but will build complexity with time in glass. The baking spices really come into focus here along with notes of earth and toasted almond. The tannins are chalky, rather than angular, and roasted hazelnut complements the fresh raspberry and black tea. This is truly an elegant, restrained, food-friendly wine.$74.9011 -
2021 Meyer Family Fluffy Billows Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
Winery Notes- As in past vintages, we aged the 2021 Fluffy Billows in French oak barrels for just under two years, an approach that always complements the firm, cellar-friendly structure of our Oakville Cabernets. Two drought years led to a small, intense crop, deep in color. It boasts a combination of spicy cherry and cassis notes on the nose with blackberry and plum on the palate. Complex notes of cedar and cooking spice mingle elegantly with the abundant fruit. Right through its long finish, bright acidity balances the whole framework of fruit and tannin. Our ‘21 Fluffy Billows is a wine that will certainly continue to evolve in the cellar for a decade or more, but it also produced with immediate enjoyment in mind.Rating(s)$59.901
