Jenny Wagner, the youngest offspring of Chuck Wagner, renowned for Caymus wines, serves as the winemaker at Emmolo Winery, a namesake tribute to her mother, Cheryl Emmolo. The Emmolo family boasts a rich legacy deeply rooted in Napa Valley. In 1923, great-grandfather Salvatore Emmolo initiated a grape rootstock nursery, a tradition continued by his son Frank. Under Frank's stewardship, the family property saw the cultivation of Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot, marking a significant chapter in the Emmolo family's enduring connection with the Napa Valley. Nose: Cocktail cherries and sweet spice, with notes of savory bread, newly oiled leather and pronounced French oak. Palate: Smooth upon entry, with a richness that builds. Flavors of cherry, spice and savory bread carry over from the nose, with lush plums and a hint of jerky. Dusty, powdery tannins lend softness. Winery Notes- “Leviathan” conjures something immense and powerful, much like the stories that the name originates from. The word was actually the progenitor of the wine. “When I heard it, I thought it was so much fun and I should make a wine called Leviathan,” Andy has said. It became the perfect symbol embodying the vision to create a single, expansive wine fed by multiple unique sites – our California vineyard exploration. It also served as the inspiration for the label, designed by Michael McDermott in collaboration with Andy. A Leviathan is something unusually huge, and Michael wanted the label to reflect that.
