Winery Notes- After three of the most challenging seasons in recent years, with consecutive extreme drought conditions and heat events, 2023 came as a redemption year. The year started with a wet and cold Winter. Spring and early Summer remained cool and overcast, with only a handful of warmer days. Consequently, Harvest was delayed by almost 6 weeks compared to a 10-year average. The waiting was nerve-racking, as early rains and cool Falls are not uncommon in Napa. Moderate weather continued through September and early October, allowing for extended hang time. 2023 Bonny Doon Le Cigare Volant Monterey County Rhône Blend
Winery Notes- The fruit is carefully selected to ensure its full potential of ripeness with balanced chemistry, and as usual for Cigare, Grenache is the star of the show. As we all know, Grenache grown in relatively cool sites in coastal California has a growing season long enough for it to create the spicy, peppery quality that we love so much and expect to taste in Cigare. We included, as is our wont, some wonderful Cinsault, a rather plump and juicy grape, which was signee to a fare-thee0well, to increase the concentration of this lightly colored and structured grape. The wine was aged in stainless steel tank and bottled ten months after harvest to preserve freshness and vibrancy.$14.9024 -

2024 Hanna Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc
Winery Notes- I am reminded of a sales trip to Chicago years ago. I proffered our SB to the wine buyer at Green Dolphin Street. A whiff ensued. Then a silent turn to from the bar to retrieve a bottle of Lychee liqueur which was poured and thrust into my hand. The similarity was amazing, as is our ‘24. Our 2024 Sauvignon Blanc has layers of quince, makrut lime, yuzu and pink grapefruit zest with notes of bosc pear, pink lady apple, sencha and even a bit of trillium bloom. By mouth it fresh as spring and round as rain with a delicate, inviting poise.$16.905 -

2023 Walter Hansel The Meadows Russian River Valley Chardonnay
Winery Notes- This is a new vineyard designated offering from 100% Hanzell Selection grown in a low land Meadow contiguous to the Santa Rosa Creek. It is dry farmed each year and requires extensive shoot and crop thinning each year due to the extreme fertile conditions. The result is the most fruit forward, with underlining tropical flavors, then any of our chardonnays.$24.9019 -

Winery Notes- A balanced and memorable Chardonnay that starts with aromas of orange blossom, Asian pear, crème fraiche, peaches and chamomile, complemented by notes of toffee, honeysuckle, and graham cracker. On the palate, flavors of green apple, Meyer lemon and stonefruit are finished with notes of tangerine and vanilla. This Chardonnay is smooth, creamy and balanced with a lingering acidity and a long finish. The palate is taut and precise rather than opulent—citrus and orchard fruit ride a lively acid spine, with subtle almond skin, chamomile, and a light chiffon of lees giving texture without weight. Oak stays in the background (largely neutral in the house style), letting the Spring Mountain minerality lead; malolactic influence is minimal, so the finish is long, saline, and mouthwatering.
